Bells Only

Bells-Only Alarm System — What It Is & How It Works

A bells-only alarm (also known as an audible-only system) triggers loud sirens or bells inside and outside your property when sensors are tripped. It’s designed to deter intruders, alert neighbours or passersby, and create a visible deterrent — but it does not include automatic remote monitoring or direct alerts to a control centre.

Key Characteristics & Limitations

Audible only, no third-party monitoring: When the alarm activates, it produces sound — but no signals are sent to alarm monitoring services or the police unless manually acted upon.

Reliant on external response: For police involvement, there must be additional evidence or witness reports (e.g. smashed glass, forced entry) — a bells-only alarm on its own is generally insufficient to secure a police response.

Duration constraints: Many bells-only systems are programmed to sound for a limited time (often 5–20 minutes) before the alarm cycles off automatically to comply with noise regulations.

Cost-effective option: Because there's no ongoing monitoring contract, installation and maintenance costs tend to be lower. However, the system is more passive in security terms.

Digital Communicator

Provides alarm monitoring. If 1 sensor is triggered, the keyholder will be notified. If more than 1 sensor is triggered, the police will be informed. Available from £7.50 per month.

*Please note this service will be phased out by 2025 due to the closure of analogue phone lines

Redcare/AddSecure*

All Redcare alarms are listed and approved by the Loss Prevention Certification Board and are only alarms to attain Police Preferred Specification. They also meet the highest European standard. Redcare Ultimate: provides 2 way monitoring, high speed transmission and alarm signals can be sent even when telephone is in use. Encrypted signals can be sent even when telephone is in use. Encrypted signals make sure that alarm signals cannot be replicated and it provides instant detection in instances where the phone line has been cut off. There are no additional charges.
  • NGP (Redcare) Essential IPand Essential are single pathway devices which can utilise the mobile network or broadband in a premise (bear in mind routers will be offline in a power cut)
  • NGP (Redcare) Essential Extra and Advanced are dual path devices rated as DP2 and carry Dual SIM cards but can also utilise the premises broadband as a second path. Full fault reporting is classified at 30 minutes
  • NGP (Redcare) Advanced Extra is the same device as Advanced but has a full fault reporting time of just 3 minutes and is rated as DP3. Also utilises the premises broadband
  • NGP (Redcare) Ultimate is a DP4 rated device with a full fault reporting in just 90 seconds. Ultimate is the best security signalling money can buy, with a built in hub over private broadband it doesn’t share with any other devices, it doesn’t suffer when the power is off. Backed up with twin SIM cards, this is the professional’s choice for high grade security systems.
Important Update

BT has announced its withdrawal from the Redcare alarm signalling market, with the service ending at the end of 2025.
To ensure continuity of service, AddSecure will partner with alarm receiving centres currently using BT Redcare’s Next Generation portfolio, taking over management and customer support responsibilities.

CSL Dual Com

CSL DualCom — Reliable, High-Speed Alarm Signalling You Can Trust

CSL DualCom is a cutting-edge alarm signalling platform that delivers instant, wireless transmission of alarm events to your Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). Designed for both residential and commercial use, it offers robust, secure connectivity — even in demanding environments and remote locations.

Key Features & Benefits

Always-on, instant transmission: When your alarm is triggered, DualCom transmits signals immediately via wireless paths — no delay, no dependence on analogue phone lines.

Fixed-rate monitoring, no surprises: A single flat-rate fee covers all calls, data transmissions, and 24/7 monitoring. There are no hidden costs, call-charge surcharges, or per-event billing.

High-speed signalling: DualCom utilises modern cellular (GPRS/4G) and IP technology to ensure fast, reliable communication.

End-to-end data security: All transmissions are encrypted, protecting your system’s communications from interception or spoofing.

Dual-path resilience for critical sites: For high-security or remote sites, DualCom can operate over two independent radio / SIM paths simultaneously (redundant SIMs). If one path fails, the other takes over.

Rapid fault reporting: In the event of a path failure or signal disruption, DualCom can alert you or the ARC within just 3 minutes (or faster, depending on grade / configuration) to ensure that no critical fault goes undetected.

Why Choose CSL DualCom?

Preferred by insurers & law enforcement: Dual-path signalling solutions like DualCom are often required to qualify for lower insurance premiums and to meet police response criteria.

GradeShift® technology: CSL DualCom uses a single hardware platform across all security grades (G2, G3, G4, Fire, etc.). You can remotely regrade the system (upgrade or downgrade) if your insurance or site risk profile changes — without replacing hardware.

No need for dedicated landlines: DualCom works independently of landlines and can share existing infrastructure if present — lowering cost and complexity.

Future-proof & compliant with standards: It aligns with evolving UK alarm signalling standards (SP/DP, EN 50131, BS directives) and supports high-grade reliability.

Can also be used for remote or unmanned sites: The twin-SIM / dual-radio architecture ensures connectivity even in areas with patchy coverage. Plus, the system supports critical failure alerts, giving you peace of mind in the most demanding installations.
