Rural Tool Theft and how you can keep your belongings safe

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is calling for individuals to participate in their Rural Tool Theft Survey which can be found on their website. The aim is to gather insights to better understand crimes affecting farms and businesses in rural areas. Due to their isolated nature, rural locations often become prime targets for criminal activity. In 2023, rural crime was estimated to cost £52.8 billion, marking a 4.3% increase from 2022. Among the most commonly stolen items are farming and power tools, as well as quad bikes, ATVs, and 4x4 vehicles.
Neighbourhood Watch advises that the best way to prevent theft is by using marking and tracking devices, which not only assist the police in investigations but also act as a deterrent for intruders. Additionally, it’s recommended that valuable equipment be stored in a secure location with proper security lighting to make access more difficult for criminals. Whenever possible, take note of the make, model, and serial numbers of high-value items. This information will be valuable in helping the police recover stolen goods should an incident occur.
